VILLANOVA SUNSHINE JAM

THIS IS A UNIQUE VERSION OF THIS SONG. IT`S FROM THE REHEARSAL WE HAD WITH BEN WARD IN MARCH 2008 JUST BEFORE THE NANTWICH BLUES FESTIVAL. IT IS VERY INTERESTING AND DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL VERSION MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE SAX POPPING IN AND OUT ALL THROUGH THE SONG.

BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN

THIS IS AN AUDIO RIP OF THE VIDEO RECORDING OF THE BLUEFUNK BENEFIT GIG IN EARLY OCTOBER MADE BY COLIN. AS IS USUAL WITH VIDEO RECORDINGS THERE IS HEAPS OF COMPRESSION WHICH IS A BIT DISTRACTING, BUT AS THIS IS THE ONLY KNOWN RECORDING WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE IT - THANKS AGAIN COLIN.

BRICKYARD BLUES VIDEO

THIS WAS A BIT OF AN EXPERIMENT WITH A COUPLE OF CAMERAS SET UP TO RECORD THE REHEARSAL - THEN EDITED TOGETHER TO CREATE A SPLIT SCREEN TYPE OF AFFAIR. IF YOU HAVE A DECENT CONNECTION WITH A GOOD DOWNLOAD SPEED THIS WORTH CHECKING OUT.

STORMY MONDAY

This recording comes from the same gig as the "Roaches Jam" - up near Hen Cloud. Again it is a simple recording made with two Rode NT1s infront of the pa speakers, but the quality holds up quite well. We were more of a background music supplier at this fund raising event so it was a bit uncomfortable at first but we relaxed into the vibe and just started to have some fun.

LITLEWING

This is a recording from a rehearsal in September 2008. It was a simple 2 microphone setup. I`m adding this as a tribute to Mitch Mitchell who died during last week. Hope you enjoy it. We have only played this live a couple of times, but we still enjoy playing it whenever we get the opportunity.

BRICKYARD BLUES (Video)

This is a video of most of the song, it fades in at the beginning but the whole of the rest of the song is there. It is from the Bluefunk Benefit gig on 8th October, 2008. We opened the evening with a half hour set, the rest of the evening went on for well over four hours with many great sets by lots of great local (and international!!) talent.

SUPERSTITION

This is a version from rehearsal on 23rd October, 2008. We have put it here because it contains the germ of a new idea for a slightly looser middle section. This may stay or go or may be developed a bit more, anyway see what you think.

AIN`T SUPERSTITIOUS

This is another right royal romp through the tune, performed at the December, 2006 Bluefunk. This is our version of  the Cry of Love version of the Jeff Beck version of the Howlin` Wolf original! Garry Le `Atte introduces the song  in a non local accent.

NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD (ACOUSTIC)

This is another recording made at Canalside Community Radio on 11th, June 2008. This was the last song we played on that particular night, and it was getting late! Thanks to Matt Isaacs for inviting us onto his show - it was a real fun evening!

THE LOOP

I don`t think that the band actually know about this recording. The reason will become clear - a rather bad mix of the two guitars resulting in Nick being nearly lost altogether. You can just make him out enough to make this listenable! This was as a result of placing the recording gear next to a monitor that has more Don than anything else unfortunately. The quality of the recording does not improve as the show goes on, but some other bits may leak out yet!! The show is the Blues at the Blues gig that we opened on 12th July, 2008.

THEME FROM AN IMAGINARY WESTERN (ACOUSTIC)

This recording of our version of an early Jack Bruce solo song was recorded at the same session as the acoustic version of The Wind Cries Mary at Canalside Community Radio in June 2008. We were still learning this song at the time and the way we play it has since changed! This was previously on the streaming player on the home page, but, as it has recently been removed from there, it is now available here to download.

ROACHES JAM

This recording comes from a gig we played just at the side of Hen Cloud at the far end of the Roaches in June, 2007. It was a fundraising garden party which is quite an unusual kind of gig for us. However, it was for a great cause and the weather was absolutely beautiful and the setting was stunning, so we just relaxed and had a bit of fun. This is just a quick jam that we did as a rough sound-check.

HARD TO HANDLE

A very rough mix of a version of this song that we rehearsed with Ben Ward the Sax player. From the same rehearsal as Don`t Let Me Down featured earlier. This, again is a bit of a wonky mix due to recording problems that night - but it`s really worth a listen even if just for Ben`s first-time-improvised solo.

POLITICIAN

This recording is from one of the early Bluefunk gigs, sometime in December 2006. We seem to have been in a hurry at this show and this version of Politician is played at an almost comical speed! This was the first evening that George Borowski came to play on his own, which may account for the excitement!

CAN`T GET NEXT TO YOU

This comes from a rehearsal in November 2006. From what I know it is originally a Temptations song that Nick and Garry heard the Al Green version of and used to play together. We have not re-visited the song since for some reason. This also features Lizzie Edwards on backing vocals. It is a bit of a rambling version but there are some great moments.

THE WIND CRIES MARY (ACOUSTIC)

This was recorded at Canalside Community Radio on 11th June 2008. Matt Isaacs is an old friend so when he invited us on to his show we were more than happy to give it a go. This was our second visit and our first with Dave. Garry is rather quiet in some spots because he was facing the other way, but there is enough of him in the mix to make it enjoyable! We may get around to more acoustic playing one day! A few photos of our visit to Canalside are shown in the gallery.

DELILAH (Video)

This is another mp4 video clip. We have only played this once with all of us present so I think this will be of some interest! This comes from the same Edale gig as the Superstition jam - much later in the night and yes, it really was that dark on the stage.

FIRST SUPERSTITION JAM (Video)

This is an mp4 video clip. This was the first time that Superstition arose in our minds. The video is from a sound-check for a gig we did in Edale in August 2007. You can see that Nick and Dave start the jam just before the camera starts recording and the rest of us join in and we have a spirited stab at the song!

DIXIE CHICKEN

This is originally a Little Feat song that is one of our favoutires. This version was recorded at Langley Village Hall in the spring of 2007 and features Lizzie Edwards on backing vocals.

FORGET HER

This is a Jeff Buckley song that never made it past the rehearsal room doors!  We loved playing the song but Garry was never too happy with his performance - judge for yourselves.

We only played the song four or five times altogether. This was recorded in early to mid 2007.

  DON`T LET ME DOWN

Just before the Nantwich Blues Festival in March 2008 we had met Ben Ward at a gig in Sutton. He had gone home to get his sax and then came to jam with us. We had so much fun that we decided to get together again as soon as possible.

This recording is from a very brief rehearsal we had with Ben for the Nantwich Festival. Some pictures of Ben playing with us can be seen in the gallery.

This has not been available before because, unfortunately, the bass guitar did not record properly.

The track is presented here for posterity!
